Dr Nicky Shaw PhD, BSc (Hons), ADipCBM, CAB, ABTC-CAB
Hi, I’m Dr Nicky Shaw, a Clinical Animal Behaviourist, dog trainer, puppy school teacher and proud Full Member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC).
I have been in practice for 10 years, with a first-class honours degree in Applied Animal Behaviour from the University of Portsmouth and a PhD in dog & puppy cognitive enrichment, behaviour, and welfare from the University of Winchester.
As the inventor of dog-artificial agent interactive technology many years ago, much of my PhD research was focused on dogs’ and puppies’ responses to verbal cues issued by an artificial agent, and how this new positive reinforcement paradigm impacted their welfare. Due to the nature of this innovative work, I collaborated with esteemed researchers in the fields of animal welfare and cognition, publishing multiple papers. I am now a Research Fellow and guest lecturer at the University of Winchester and University Centre Sparsholt, and a peer-reviewer for animal welfare and cognition Journals.
In practice, I am passionate about promoting effective communication, cooperation, and enjoyable partnerships between dogs, puppies, and their owners. Since 2016, I have trained thousands of puppies and dogs, running classes and providing private training and consultations in the Chelsea and surrounding areas. For behaviour consultations I work on referral from Medivet (Kynance) Gloucester Road and other practices. I am a 100% force-free, rewards- and evidence-based trainer.
